Treating OCD effectively requires specialized knowledge and skills. I provide training and consultation for therapists and other practitioners who want to strengthen their understanding of OCD, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and especially the response prevention part of ERP.
Consultation: Individual and group consultation focused on treatment planning, ERP, response prevention, identifying less obvious compulsions, and what to do when treatment gets stuck. OCD cases can get complicated, and sometimes you need another set of eyes. Let's figure out what's going on—and what to do next.
Training & Workshops: I like trainings that keep people thinking, laughing, and learning. I bring energy, humor, clinical experience, and outside-the-box thinking to complicated questions about OCD and ERP—without losing sight of what we know works. My goal is for practitioners to leave with ideas they understand, remember, and can actually use.
Response prevention is where much of the work of ERP happens. ERP is not simply about exposure. What good is exposure work if you don't know how to reject compulsions?
I want clients to have a plan—not float along hoping they have fewer intrusive thoughts or less anxiety. ERP means going on the offense: looking for opportunities to get triggered, welcoming intrusive thoughts when they show up, and treating them as chances to practice saying no to OCD.
The goal isn't fewer thoughts or less anxiety. It's getting better at recognizing OCD and rejecting compulsions. “Good, there's my intrusive thought. I want that—I need the practice.” That's the shift I'm looking for.
This is the heart of the Boss It Back approach.
